Lightweight sleep apnea devices stop your snoring and protect your health
Obstructive sleep apnea, a condition in which you temporarily stop breathing in your sleep, is a major cause of snoring and daytime fatigue. It can also result in dangerous health problems. At Kirkland Family Dentistry, we offer several solutions to address sleep apnea, including lightweight devices that do not require you to be hooked up to a machine.
There is no cure for sleep apnea, but continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is a primary treatment. With a CPAP device that you wear at night, air is delivered to the throat via a tube which connects to an air machine. However, many people find such devices cumbersome.
Because being hooked up to a CPAP machine all night long can be uncomfortable, many people do not follow through with recommended sleep apnea therapy. However, it’s dangerous to let your sleep apnea go untreated. In addition to keeping your partner awake all night with your snoring, untreated sleep apnea is associated with serous medical complications such as heart attacks and coronary artery disease.
As a more comfortable solution to address snoring and sleep apnea, we provide some oral devices which do not have to be connected to a machine. Such devices, worn like a night guard, simply position the mouth in a manner that opens up the airway and allows free, quiet breathing – no mask, no machine.
